  4.                     ABOUT THIS DRAWER AND THE ARTISTS

  8.      Because there was so much good stuff to put on Megadisc4, we found
  9.     ourselves a little short of bytage this issue, so the ArtGallery hasn't
  10.     got as much in it as we'd like. However, what's here is good, I think.
  11.     All of them are displayed using the Public Domain utility "Display"
  12.     which allows you to show a picture by either:
  13.         1. Selecting the picture icon, then INFO from the PROJECT menu,
  14.     then typing in DISPLAY in the DEFAULT TOOL box, then clicking on SAVE.
  15.     This now lets you see the picture by double-clicking its icon, because
  16.     it now looks for the program (default tool) Display, and if it finds it
  17.     will show the picture. Note that if you had Display in a different
  18.     drawer, you'd have to enter the PATHNAME for Display so that it can be
  19.     found. E.g., type in          DISKNAME:OTHERDRAWERNAME/DISPLAY
  20.     This is a technique you can use to make any PROJECT icon look for the
  21.     program which runs it - have a look at the INFO for other PROJECT
  22.     icons, such as a Notepad project icon.
  23.         2. The alternative is (and this also goes for all other cases) to
  24.     click once on the Picture icon, then hold down SHIFT and double-click
  25.     on the DISPLAY icon. This is how you can open any particular project to
  26.     be run with an appropriate program.

  28.     DISPLAY will cycle the colours of any picture which has been saved with
  29.     some colour cycle information, and you can get some great effects with
  30.     Deluxe Paint graphics - anyone who wants to see these effects most
  31.     dramatically should get an ArtDisk by Costello, or one of the Artscape
  32.     disks (see the separate review). If you want to view the picture
  33.     without colour cycling, just press the TAB key which toggles cycling on
  34.     and off.

  36.     There are graphics here by Perry Papadopoulos (who did some animations
  37.     for previous Megadiscs), Gunther Srick (who also did the snazzier icons
  38.     on this issue), and Graeme Whittle of Artscape fame. I hope you like
  39.     them - there were one or two complaints about the quality of the art on
  40.     previous disks...these are about as good as anything I've seen. If
  41.     you've got some original stuff, please send it in, we're always looking
  42.     for good graphics.
